DJ Ricochet - Filthy Business

DJ Ricochet began his first steps into the world of the DJ at the early age of eleven after receiving a mobile disco console. This first taste of music technology fired his curiosity and he soonwanted to be able to do more with the decks. With a desire to express himself more clearly through what he could do on the equipment he dived headlong into a musical journey that would last most of his life. This early period was a time when movies such as cult films Breakdance and Beat Street were firm favorites with the youth market in the UK. As his 14th birthday approached the budding turntable wizard could be found mixing beats by artists such as KRS 1, EPMD, London Posse, Hijack, Overlord X, NWA & Silver Bullet.
A passion and drive for music twinned with his ability to instinctively smash the dance floor soon lead to his talents behind the decks being in demand. Venues across Buckinghamshire began to entertain the idea of allowing hip hop and youth music generally a place on their music policy. A firm favourite at many Ricochet was eventually approached by local mainstream nightclub Zuma Beach to host an under 18 urban club event as an experiment. The night was a massive success with Ricochet still just 14 years of age stealing the show which lead to him become a resident at the events. Ricochets residency lasted over 3 years at Zuma Beach, with the club often calling upon his skills at events for the over 18 dance floors.
His music, technique and style were now being enjoyed by serious clubbers who had a refined taste for their music and had a mature knowledge of the scene. A shift was occurring in underground dance music at this time and Ricochets ear tuned into the emerging sound of "Jungle Techno". Record labels such as Sub Urban, Ibiza & Reinforced were regular visitors now to hisDJ sets and a progression to drum and bass began to occur. This was the direction his musical tastes were driving him toward. The growing crowds became ever more appreciative of his sets and the name Ricochet became a dominant feature on flyers over the South of England.
Demand for his skills blossomed and from the evolving drum and bass scene promoters such as Pure X, Hysteria, Destiny & Sidewinder approached the evolving precocious talent with bookings for his turntable skills, beat selection and natural dance floor know how. His view of the scene during this period widened as he began to work full time in Milton Keynes record shop Black & White Records which was based in Wolverton. Ricochet was exposed to a wide range of musical styles during his time at Black and White Records which saw his musical maturity and knowledge evidence itself in a growing maturity of sound.
Club residencies were now part of Ricochets weekend diet and the cream of the local scene enlisted his talents. Legendary events such as "Steppaz", "Bassment Lounge" & "Alpha Project" have played host many times to his musical skills, as a resident and headliner. After miles of tarmac covered to get to the next event, Ricochet decided to take a career break upon the birth of his son. This lasted for approximately a year. During this period Ricochet was not idle as a musical force. On the contrary, the drum and bass exponent had been adding more strings to his bowand expanding an already deep knowledge of drum and bass in all its forms.
Ricochet the recording artist was born. With his close and long association with major talents like Juiceman, DJ Alibi, Dungeon Beats & one of the godfathers of drum and bass in the guise of none other than his close friend Cool Hand Flex, Ricochet began to move his music from the confines of his mind and out through the speaker. Ricochet the music producer began to evolve.Perfecting his art and collaborating with drum and bass royalty had its effect, and he returned to the DJ circuit in a blaze of dub plates and exclusive music created by his own hand and collaborations with others.
Returning to a scene can always be tricky but the hunger was back and after a speaker shattering performing at Steppaz he had marked a triumphant return. Flyers rapidly appeared across the UK with the name Ricochet appearing as a regular feature. Performances at events such as Behold the Jungle, Usual Suspects, Dusk 'till Dawn, Jump in the Dark and Submerssive appearing. This culminated in a residency at one of the home counties most respected DnB events , Alpha Project. Alpha Project saw him once again perform alongside some of the scenesheavyweights with regular visits by Brockie, Nicky Blackmarket, Clipz, Mampi Swift, Ash-a-Tack, Alibi, Ghetto Fighterz, Dungeon Beats and Hazard to name a few. Ricochet held his own comfortably bringing the house down every time. After many sold out events and road blocks 2006 saw Alpha Project move into the books of legend as life drew the Alpha Project team into different directions.
